How to feed and transport 10 billion people by 2050

By 2050, the world’s population is projected to reach 10 billion people, many living in new cities. To cover their basic needs, we will need more food and protein, as well as new forms of energy and transport.

As the world’s leading provider of process technologies, we believe we have a responsibility – and an opportunity – to make a difference. Every day 2 billion people eat food processed on our machinery, and 1 billion use transport systems containing our advanced materials.

Climate change

Today, over 30% of food is lost or goes to waste – along with the energy embedded in it. We are working with our customers to reduce the energy used in food production by 50%.

10 billion people by 2050

We are working with our partners to develop processing solutions for protein sources that need less water, space and energy to cultivate. We are also working to achieve a 50% reduction in energy and food waste in our processes.

Water shortages

Nearly three quarters of the world’s water is used in agriculture, which was encouraged us to create new technologies to cut levels of water use in food processing. We are developing solutions to process foods made with nutritious raw materials that require less water and space to cultivate, and we are eliminating the losses of water-consuming grains with smart storage and sorting solutions.

Digital solutions for sustainability
